Witness the event… Share the memory… Frame the gift.
Sign Your Name Away is a wedding gift that acknowledges something very special to every single bride: the changing of her name when she gets married. Just before her last name changes forever, Sign Your Name Away’s personalized poetry is read aloud amongst family & friends. The bride then “signs her name away” (her maiden name) one final time. The words & moment combine to honor the bride’s family, recognize the significance of her name change, and celebrate the joining of two lives. Sign Your Name Away is both an event & a gift: Like other wedding events – the removal of the garter, the throwing of the bouquet, the cutting of the cake – Sign Your Name Away is a new wedding tradition. Its a ceremonial moment that creates a memory shared by everyone who witnesses the signing and an elegantly framed keepsake for the bride &/or her parents. Perfect to give at the rehearsal dinner or reception (or even after the wedding) – click to view the three versions on the left side of the site. Why Sign Your Name Away? Its too important not to. A bride needs the acknowledgment, honor, and closure that only Sign Your Name Away can provide at this unique moment in her life. Brides: It’s time to Sign Your Name Away…
"...Sure, its traditional that the bride takes the groom's last name as her own, but that does not make it any less significant each and every time a bride does it. My bride-to-be was going to take my last name, but that also meant leaving behind her own, and I wanted to be able to express to her and her family that this was a special thing to me." I married my high school sweetheart. We were only seventeen years old when our relationship began, so we were in no hurry to tie the knot. But before we knew it, we had graduated high school, then college, and five great years later we were engaged with our wedding day rapidly approaching. Now before I go any further, I must lay a little groundwork. My wife and I both have been blessed with great families and really great parents. Our parents are some of our best friends, and with my wife being the firstborn child and all, she was (and still is) Daddy's Little Girl. So as our wedding day approached, I began to think ahead of how difficult it was going to be for her father to give away his precious little girl. And although my wife had no problem taking my last name as her own, I knew she was going to miss her last name. After all, that's who she was growing up, and this was the name she had been called all her life. It was the name she shared with her parents and the family she will always love. Sure, its traditional that the bride takes the groom's last name as her own, but that does not make it any less significant each and every time a bride does it. My bride-to-be was going to take my last name, but that also meant leaving behind her own, and I wanted to be able to express to her and her family that this was a special thing to me. These were the ideas that were in the back of my mind as I pondered the perfect gift to give my bride-to-be. I really wanted something unique and original (who doesn't?), but at the same time it had to express my genuine love for her. And because our families mean so much to us, this gift would ideally include them some how as well (besides, scoring points with your future in-laws never hurts). Motivated by these thoughts and feelings, I put pen to paper and Sign Your Name Away was born. --From the author
